National Grid Supports Capital Region Student Career Pathways Through $75,000 Grant to 518ElevatED

Albany, N.Y. – National Grid, through its Grid for Good program, has provided a $75,000 grant to 518ElevatED to connect young people and work-ready adults with training and job opportunities in the energy industry. Through the partnership between National Grid and 518ElevatED, up to 30 students a year will be provided scholarships for a 10-month career exploration program which combines in-person and virtual sessions discussing career pathways and skills development. 518ElevatED provides specialized programs, mentoring, professional guidance, and academic and financial support for students in the Capital Region. By assembling a network of business leaders, educational advocates, and dedicated volunteers, promising youth are provided opportunities and access to education that may be otherwise unavailable. Additionally, through 518 ElevatED, local businesses can connect with a diverse, educated, and motivated workforce. “The Grid for Good program shares our vision of connecting career-ready adults and college scholars with businesses seeking to foster career paths in determined professionals,” said Laura Marx, President/CEO of 518 ElevatED. “This partnership allows 518 ElevatED to expand our outreach to new students and graduates outside of our traditional program. We are thrilled to partner with National Grid and look forward to working together to impact the lives of the Grid for Good program participants.”

The Grid for Good program includes: • Monthly sessions hosted at National Grid where participants hear from experts about working in the energy industry and the different roles and training necessary. • The opportunity to work with National Grid team members to help build confidence and collaboration skills. • Providing guidance on marketing oneself for the workplace by working on resume writing, interviewing techniques, and other transferable skills. • Creating possibilities for future, full-time employment with National Grid after Grid for Good Program completion.

“Partnering with 518ElevatED is a great way for us to both make an impact in our community as well as help open up new opportunities and expand the workforce engaged with helping National Grid build our community’s green energy future,” said Brian Sano, National Grid’s Regional Executive. “It’s exciting to have this hands-on opportunity to make a difference in these young people’s lives."
